Who We Are

THE MID-MISSOURI BONSAI SOCIETY is an organization of bonsai enthusiasts. We are dedicated to the art of bonsai and we share information to enhance the experience of members at all levels. We encourage a membership of widely differing levels of experience. Our members range from local masters who have many years of success with bonsai culture to new bonsai owners who have very little experience but have a desire to learn.
Many of us were drawn to the art of bonsai when we saw a bonsai show, were given a bonsai as a gift, or purchased one at a nursery or gift shop. Some of us have just gotten our first bonsai and want to learn how to keep it alive and healthy. Regardless of our skill level, we all have the desire to learn more about the art of bonsai as a fulfilling and relaxing hobby.
Membership: Dues are $20 per calendar year. Members receive our newsletter Literati, which includes details of the previous meeting, a schedule of upcoming meetings noting program topics and speakers, a list of upcoming local and regional bonsai events and workshops, and other items of interest.
Meetings: MMBS meets the third Sunday of each month at 1 p.m. at Boone Landing (109 N. Keene St., Columbia, MO) unless otherwise noted. Meetings are held Jan. through June and Sept. through Nov.
At each meeting we present an educational program highlighting some aspect of bonsai culture, styling, and propagation. We also sponsor workshops, outings, and two annual Spring shows.
We encourage anyone with an interest in bonsai to attend one of our meetings and see what MMBS has to offer.
